0% APR Credit Cards: Plan a Purchase Payoff

Compare purchase promotions, repayment targets and post-promotion APRs. Understand how 0% APR differs from deferred interest.

Published by Fintiex · Guide updated Worked examples

For a planned purchase, choose a promotional period you can repay within. Confirm that the 0% rate applies to purchases; a balance transfer promotion does not establish a purchase offer.

Write down the promotional end date

Check when the introductory clock starts, which transactions qualify and the rate afterward. Continue making required payments throughout the promotion. Do not assume the minimum payment will clear the purchase before the offer ends.

Example: budget for an earlier finish

A hypothetical $2,400 purchase at 0% over 15 months requires $160 per month to clear in 15 payments, assuming no fees or additional purchases. Planning to finish in 14 payments requires about $171.43 each month and leaves some timing margin. Use actual statement dates when setting up your plan.

Is it deferred interest?

An offer saying “no interest if paid in full” may be a deferred-interest plan with different consequences if you miss its payoff deadline. Read the disclosure rather than relying on the headline. Compare APR basics and balance transfer planning before choosing.
